This August we are putting on a new course, our 5 day natural dyeing and hand spinning retreat.
Natural Dyeing with botanical dyes
Participants can spend 2 days in the woods natural dyeing with botanical dyes. We will forage for
dye plants and make dyes outside over fires the traditional way. Over two days we will make over 20 beautiful shades, ready for hand spinning.
2 Days of Hand-Spinning
The last two days of the course are spent learning to hand spin with Bridie. Firstly participants can have a go at a drop spindle, which was the main method of hand spinning before spinning wheels were introduced into the Highlands in the 1800’s. However, the main focus of the two days will be learning to hand-spin with a spinning wheel. We will have 6 different types of spinning wheels for participants to have a go with, to experiment and see which they prefer; Lightweight or heavy, double treadle or single. Bridie gently guides everyone though all the steps of learning to hand-spin, in a relaxed and humorous way.
At the end of the course guests will have learnt how to naturally dye and spin their own fleece into yarn- And have had a relaxing time in a beautiful place.
Guests stay at Kerrow house and we provide all meals, transfers from Inverness and workshops. We live 40 minutes from Inverness in a beautiful part of the Scottish Highlands, which includes, Glen Affric and Loch Ness. We are located in 100 acres of woodland near the village of Cannich over looking Strathglass. Inverness can be easily reached by plane, train or bus.
