Wild Rose News & Course Dates
It feels as if the Spring is creeping up on us slowly, even though this morning it was still -5 degrees. We did see the first Primroses and we have even started having the occasional lunch outside, a sure sign!
We have had a busy old winter…After our courses stopped at the end of October, Ele and I started our Christmas markets, selling our Eco printed silk scarves and felting kits, at the Country living show in Glasgow and various Highland events. Since the new year we have worked along side Crofting Connections and RHET organizing a Sheep and Wool event for local primary schools, it was great fun, involving local spinners, weavers, felters and crofters.
The sheep and goats are both doing well, we are now milking both goats and I’m trying to get my head around making cheese! We had 5 sheep skins tanned this year, giving us beautiful Shetland rugs.
Now we are starting to get organised for next season, Alex has stoically organised the barn, I’m working out where to put all my washed and unwashed fleece, stacking dye pots and clearing for winter hay.
We start this year with hen parties in March and then our weekend and week-long courses and holidays start for the Spring, Summer and Autumn. We are really lucky to have Fi Oberon (a world renowned felter) join us this year, teaching needle felting on our May week. It should be a lovely week, learning how to make beautiful felted sculptures from our naturally dyed fleece.
We are also running tailor-made holidays and workshops for groups of 4 or more people, so get in touch if you want us to organise a special weekend.
