Here is some of the feedback and letters from previous Escapees;
“There is an entire industry devoted to the art of relaxation, but Rosie and Alex delivered this retreat in a way that completely epitomised the worth of the concept.” K Edgley (The Guardian).

“When you meant relaxation you really went for it…Joany was the most centred and wonderful yoga teacher that I have ever met…I felt re-energised and revitalised for the day ahead…I also felt hugely calm….each day had a magical feel, from the beach to the woodland wool dyeing and felt making, it was sublime!..A perfectly balanced break beautifully organised and structured just right.” Suki
“Your holiday was amazing! I loved it all!” Rosie C.
“All in all, the week was unbelievably rich in experiences, so much variation and so much learning. It was a great pleasure to be here and I don’t just mean the pleasure of enjoying activities, I mean the pleasure of experiencing your existence and interaction with nature. This week really made my life richer and I want to take this experience with me and transfer it into my everyday life”.
J Keller, (Germany)
“You were the most charming hosts, inspiring and knowledgeable guides about the history, flora and fauna of this marvellous part of Scotland. I loved the beautiful walks and your delicious and varied food at supper time. No superlatives can do justice to your delicate generosity and extreme responsibility towards your guests. Thank-you with all my heart for having us and creating for us during these eight delightful days a home from home” J Harog (Isreal).
Fleece to Felt Week
[The most memorable part of the holiday was] “the small field trips outside Ullapool to meet other people like Hilda, June and Jeff. It left a big impression on me about the small communities in Scotland and how they work together to make everything work….. I am reborn! simply the best holiday I have ever been on.” Tegan F (USA)
“I loved the whole process of gathering natural materials (lichen, fungus, nettles, birch bark, etc) to dye the wool, the dyeing itself and the amazing array of colours we created with single and secondary dyes. The felt-making itself was fascinating and great fun – Rosie creates the perfect balance – encouraging personal experimentation and providing expert support. I was delighted with the bag I made and couldn’t quite believe I’d made it!! We were able to work outside a lot of the time – either with the fantastic views of the valley from the wood or next to the river by the cottage we were staying in. I loved being able to go walking from the cottage each morning/ evening (with several different routes available) and saw some fantastic wildlife, including huge boletus fungi (in early July) and a Pine marten”. J Woodward (UK)
“Really nice touch to give us the foraging bags, the wildlife info and recipe cards- so often you forget what you’ve been told and then lose that knowledge before having a chance to put it into practise, so it was great to have those to refer back to”. R King (UK)
“I loved the whole week and all the activities involved. I had very little expectation or knowledge about fleece or felting but learnt an enormous amount and came away loving the felt piece I created. The highlands are conducive to creativity!” Nisha G.
Dye to Spin Week
I had a marvelous time. The food was very good and plentiful. The accommodation enchanting and I’d love to go back to that house, whether with you or just for other fun.
It was wonderful spending so much time out of doors… Somehow, standing about on your hillside I felt we might achieve anything.
Mary K (summer 2016) UK
.”..Lots of outside views, fires, outdoor meals, interesting skills to learn, friendly warm people..and the course being properly thought out and run; yet it was so relaxed,”
Susie M (Summer 2016) UK
The Craft Retreat
Thanks for a wonderful week of crafting, interesting walks and gentle yoga. It was a lovely combination of learning and relaxation and to top it off the food and accommodation were excellent.
I enjoyed learning about the local plants, dyes and landscapes and how to use them in the various textile activities. I feel as if I can go back home and experiment further.
The week had a warm, friendly, community vibe.
Craft Weekends (Natural Dyeing, Eco-printing & Felting).
Fab weekend! Learned lots and going home to get dyeing and eco printing. The yurt made my stay extra special.
Excellent weekend workshop! Friendly, great fun and I got to learn lots of new techniques. Great food too!
Outdoor Wild Cookery/Prehistoric
“The holiday was great. I booked it for my husband’s 40th birthday because he’s interested in cooking and the great outdoors. It exceeded both our expectations. Rosie and Alex are a fantastic team and couldn’t have been better hosts, keeping us busy, fed and entertained the whole weekend. The other thing to say is that Rosie is an excellent cook and has designed some brilliant dishes with foraged ingredients. The quality of what we made from what we gathered was surprisingly good. On leaving, Rosie gave us some foraging bags of our own and recipe cards for us to try at home. The setting is absolutely beautiful and will revive the most frazzled of minds. We’d love to go again and try another season as my husband was a big fan of Rosie’s sloe vodka.” Heather P.
“I just wanted to get in touch and say how blessed we all felt to have shared two wonderful days with you and your family. Susie had such an amazing time and the bridesmaids are now all feeling confident and content in our decision to pick your wonderful course for the hen do. Thank-you for sharing your life, land and skills with us.” Nikki K
“I loved doing the cooking (prehistoric cookery) -it was a great process. The felting (with a pony) was fun, Ian was a hoot! Delicious food, cakes and flapjacks too. Accommodation was perfect. All in all, really loved it and felt very nourishing.” Zoe E.
“A truly special weekend…I came home so contented and relaxed and most of all inspired. I also loved Kerrow House, it was perfect and so comfortable and homely for us gaggle of girls.”
